i went to church this morning. before the sermon, my church has this breakfast potluck thing and we went to that today. to be honest, i spent most of the morning saying nothing and wishing we weren't there because it was just awkward. i hate being the new person, i always have. i could have handled it better, but nothing is going to make it any easier to get settled in. so, i took my breakfast back to my chair and sat there with my brother feeling sorry for myself. all i thought about was boise. i just wanted to be back in boise. where i was the person who was mingling with all my long time friends and laughing and talking about old times. so i spent the early morning wallowing in self-pity.
i even stood stubbornly during worship, just wishing i could go home and be alone and think about boise. but, once the lesson began, i found myself listening intently on every word the pastor had to say. i have to admit, he is an amazing speaker, and god is obviously shining through him. every single week, no matter what kind of a mood i'm in, once i sit down and just listen to what god has to say to me, i feel a million times better. even today, when i was sure that nothing could cheer me up, god was there to lift me up and point me in the right direction. i'm so blessed to have such an awesome god in my life.
in the last couple of months, i have been entirely too focused on what i want and my issues. and god has been continually trying to reassure me that everything is okay. he is doing all this for a reason and he is preparing me for something great. sometimes i just need a little tug back down to earth to see that.
'"for i know the plans i have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future."'
-jeremiah 29:11
